Espen "Ash Lad", a poor farmer's son, embarks on a dangerous quest with his brothers to save the princess from a vile troll known as the Mountain King - in order to collect a reward and save his family's farm from ruin.
"This cradle of great stories and legends, Norse mythology is adapted by the Norwegians themselves. It is from here that, for example, J.R.R. Tolkien drew themes from the books of "The Lord of the Rings" and from where J.K. Rowling took some elements for the Harry Potter stories. In "The Mountain King" we have the great folkloric character Ashlad as the protagonist, in an adventure for the whole family. The feature film received the approval seal of its countrymen, being the second highest grossing movie in Norway in 2017."
