In 1988, at the height of the AIDS crises in the United States, composer John Corigliano wrote his Symphony N°1, as a tribute to his many close friends who died from that terrible plague. Today this symphony is considered one of the greatest symphonic works by any American composer. While it is impossible to see or hear most classical composers explain their works in detail, Of Rage and Remembrance features a conversation between John Corigliano and conductor David Alan Miller wherein Corigliano explains the references and meaning of every theme of his symphony. As we follow his narrative, we also hear a stunning performance of the piece by the Albany Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of David Alan Miller.
