It's the Wild West, circa 1870. Samuel Alabaster, an affluent pioneer, ventures across the American frontier to marry the love of his life, Penelope. As his group traverses the west, the once-simple journey grows treacherous, blurring the lines between hero, villain and damsel.
"Selected at the Berlin Festival - where it competed for the prestigious Golden Bear - "Under the Silver Lake" is not a conventional western, bringing healthy doses of humor and unexpected twists in its plot. Unfortunately, the film has an irregular rhythm, with the first half with a lot of comedy and the second one a bit chaotic. Still, the film as a whole is effective and interesting, with a sharp look at human behavior - tempered by Robert Pattinson's ("Water for Elephants") and Mia Wasikowska's ("Alice in Wonderland") great performances."
