The thousand-year-old baobabs of Senegal and the monumental olive trees of Puglia are the iconographic symbols of two continents, Africa and Mediterranean Europe, both threatened by climate change. An incredibly high percentage of the continent's baobabs have died in the past 20 years, researchers suspect that this phenomena is related to the climate change. On the other hand, in Apulia the olive trees drying rapidly and scholars attribute it to Xylella. The documentary, accompanied by the extraordinary narrative interpretation of the Oscar-winning Russell Crowe, will shed light on the causes of the deaths of the giants of Africa and Southern Italy by introducing the viewer to the complex kingdom of plants. The film also documents the current and endangered ancestral practices of the Mijikenda of the Senegalese coast and the Apulian farmers, both guardians of a vast biocultural heritage. In the Mediterranean area there are examples of a spiritual relationship between man and the olive tree and the same goes for the baobab in Senegal, which is associated with myths and ceremonies. Through the stories of some of the protagonists, it will be interesting to understand how the processes of globalization involve two "distant" cultures and geographic areas.
