"Typically, alien invasion stories in the cinema are told using strong tones of suspense, thriller, and horror. South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp's "District 9" (from "Chappie") takes a different approach by using an alien plot to address prejudice, gentrification, migration, and apartheid. It's an uncomfortable movie that helps viewers immerse themselves in a believable fantasy reality that evokes different emotions and reminds us of some of the reactions "The Thing" produces. Sharlto Copley's (from "Hardcore: Mission Extreme") performance adds an even more dramatic and disturbing tone to the film, which doesn't shy away from delivering powerful (and sometimes blatant) messages to the audience.
