Why watch the movie Spring Breakers?
"From cult director Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers is a crime comedy that, beyond the film itself, had a significant impact on the global independent film scene. The plot follows four college girls (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine) who, during a particularly wild spring break, make increasingly dangerous decisions that lead them to work for a drug dealer (James Franco). The film, which some viewed as a critique of millennial superficiality, paradoxically became a turning point for certain cinematic trends. Beyond helping Gomez and Hudgens break away from their Disney fame, Spring Breakers served as a launching pad for the independent film production and distribution company A24, which has become known for indie and auteur-driven films with aesthetics similar to those of this movie (for better or for worse). It stands as one of the most important independent films of its decade."
