Heroic Losers

"In 2019, the cinema saw an explosion of films about the struggle between the poor and the rich, the oppressed and the oppressors, employees and employers. This was the case with the Brazilian 'Bacurau', the French 'Les Miserables' and now the Argentine 'La odisea de los giles'. Unlike the other two mentioned, the film of the "brothers" does not resort to violence. It is purely the popular revolt of a group of men, in a rural area, who feel wronged by bankers and large landowners. Although there are problems with the script's progress, the aesthetics are reminiscent of 'Wild Tales' and Ricardo Darin, the great star of Argentine cinema, is spectacular. But the main attraction here is that, while speaking about the injustices of our time, 'La odisea de los giles' is fun. The reflection arrives little by little, in controlled doses. In this way, the film does not become a heavy experience. It remains urgent, with a message that transcends the regional air of the production."
