In Rio de Janeiro, more than 16,000 civilians have been killed in police operations over the past twenty years, all in the name of self-defense. This powerful and disturbing film follows the mothers of these victims as they fight for justice against a corrupt and brutal system.

'Auto de Resistência' dives into this second problem - the term that gives the movie its title is the one used to classify murders in self-defense committed by the police. Exploring how these crimes are poorly reported and with often ineffective investigations, the feature tells real cases - even going to the trials. The victims, of course, are from the periphery and communities, revealing a great divide between the rich and the poor in society, as well as ethnic violence.
