Why watch this film?
Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry, is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
"Drop is an intense thriller by Christopher Landon, who has previously crafted other clever horror films for Blumhouse, such as Happy Death Day and Freaky. In this story, we follow a single mother (Meghann Fahy) who, after becoming a widow under tragic circumstances years ago, decides to start dating again. However, her first romantic date, at a fancy restaurant, turns into a nightmare when someone sends her anonymous messages with a threat: commit the crimes they demand or pay with her young son’s life. It’s a well-directed thriller that, despite its implausibility, feels believable thanks to Landon's direction and the screenplay co-written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, which directs attention and emotions to the right places at the right times. Its major stumble comes with the climax, which undermines that credibility. However, if you enjoy thrillers with clever and claustrophobic premises, don’t miss Drop."
