"The legacy of Studio Ghibli can be defined by the filmographies of its founders, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Nevertheless, the renowned Japanese animation studio has still spawned debut directors such as Tomomi Mochizuki ('I Can Hear the Ocean') or, in this case, Hiroyuki Morita, who worked as an animator for other productions and studio films like Satoshi Kon's 'Perfect Blue' or the anime 'Bokurano'. 'Neko no ongaeshi' is a spin-off of 'Whisper of the Heart', which itself was based on a manga by Aoi Hiiragi. Although it may not be the best or most amazing animated adventure released under the Ghibli seal, it is a very pleasant movie for both children and adults."
