"'Red Line Crossing' is a Japanese mystery thriller with some horror elements and a certainly controversial plot for several reasons. On the one hand, it deals with the issue of sexual harassment of young women by male authority figures (in this case, teachers and students). On the other hand, it also exposes the distances that community institutions are willing to go to protect their reputation, even if it means covering up a crime. A Japanese film that makes up for its austere aesthetics with camera work that highlights expressiveness, as well as a script in which appearances hide something more, with surprising twists that reveal very dark characters."
