Smilla (played by Julia Ormond), the boy's neighbor and also an Inuit descendant, doesn't believe the official explanation. Acrophobic, the boy would never climb up there on his own — and it's this doubt that leads her to start an investigation on her own. Little by little, the plot turns into a psychological thriller that mixes science, ethnic issues and a dose of conspiracy. What seemed like an accident hides secrets that cross borders and take Smilla to icy Greenland. Cold, tension and mystery mix in a narrative that keeps you hooked until the end.
