Edward E. Clive was an actor and manager who abandoned medical studies to perform in theatrical productions across Britain, becoming skilled in regional dialects. He later moved to the United States, founded the Copley Theatre Stock Company in Boston, and became a Broadway producer and director. In Hollywood, he was typecast as austere British butlers, mayors, and aristocrats, with notable roles in The Invisible Man, The Bride of Frankenstein, and The Charge of the Light Brigade.
