Daniel Craig's Early-Career Miniseries Is A Masterpiece Every British TV Fan Has To Watch

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. When I saw a 24-year-old Daniel Craig play the sadistic South African Police Sergeant Jaapie Botha in John G. Avildsen's 1940s Apartheid drama "The Power of One," I can't say that I had him pegged for the next James Bond, but I did know that he was a remarkably hissable villain. The film quickly faded from memory, but every time Craig turned up in a movie during the 1990s, I'd remember how effective he was as Botha, and wonder why he wasn't getting meatier roles. What I didn't know at the time was that he'd given a tour de

In the Paramount+ drama Tulsa King, Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) leaves prison after 25 years and realizes he was sacrificed while the world moved on. Thrust into an entirely new world, Manfredi must learn to build his criminal empire while watching for threats from those who want a piece of it. The show is regarded as one of the best mob dramas since The Sopranos, and Apple TV is tapping into this audience with a new mob drama that follows a character similar to Manfredi. Trouble begins early for Felix Carmichael (Hugh Laurie) when someone in his criminal organization betrays him, and he lands in Staplehurst, a notorious prison. Like Manfredi,

Free-to-Watch 2-Season Series Perfected East of Eden’s 1900s Drama Formula 24 Years Earlier

Netflix’s East of Eden has quickly become one of the most talked-about shows of the fall. Led by Florence Pugh as the dangerous Cathy Ames, the seven-episode limited series brings John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel to life, following the Trask family through decades of love, betrayal, and bitter sibling rivalry. But long before Netflix turned to Steinbeck, a British period drama had already nailed this kind of story. Released in 2002, The Forsyte Saga adapted John Galsworthy’s novels from the early 1900s. Like East of Eden, it follows one wealthy family across generations, where one bad marriage leaves scars that the children are forced to carry. The best part is

John Hannah Solves Crimes – and Escapes Mobility Scooters – in ‘Benidorm Is Murder’: ‘Sunshine When the World Is So Cloudy’

In “Benidorm Is Murder,” shady deeds are being committed under the scorching sun. The show, produced by Blackbox Multimedia and Clapperboard Studios, stars John Hannah and Carolina Bécquer as Dennis and Rosa: an unlikely crime-fighting duo who annoy the local police by taking over investigations in the Spanish seaside resort. Zdf Studios is the international distributor. “It’s a beautiful place where dark things happen. Also, it’s real. It has golf courses, water sports, and entertainment up the wazoo. Everything you need. Sometimes you watch these shows and go: ‘I don’t buy it.’ But in Benidorm, anything is possible,” says Hannah. Bécquer agrees: “If it took place anywhere else, it would feel fake. It works because it’s Benidorm. That’s exactly the energy you feel when you’re there.” Benidorm isn’t the most luxurious resort. But that’s the point, says Hannah, and that’s part of its charm.

Apple TV's New Crime Thriller Officially Sets January Release Date

There are few shows available on Apple TV that are more bingeable than Idris Elba's Hijack. The pulse-racing thriller series was an enormous hit in its first season, winning plenty of global fans and a second-season renewal with its fast-paced, no-nonsense dedication to raising audiences' blood pressure. Granted, the second season wasn't quite up to the standard of the first, even debuting with a score as low as 20% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. But that doesn't change just how indulgent this action thriller is from creator George Kay. Kay's career so far includes some of the best-loved shows on streaming, from Netflix favorites Lupin and Criminal to the
