‘The Great British Baking Show’: Fan Favorite Frontrunner Eliminated in Pastry Week

The competition is heating up on The Great British Baking Show, with a former Star Baker and fan favorite becoming the latest contestant to leave the tent after a challenging Pastry Week. Hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding announced that the 7 remaining contestants would face a series of pastry-based challenges. For the Signature, the group had to make eight handheld savory pies, focusing not only on tasty fillings but also on creating the perfect crust. For the Technical challenge, judge Nigella Lawson tasked the contestants with making their own take on the traditional Polish dessert Karpatka, a sort of cream cake made with layers of choux pastry and vanilla custard.

A Peek Into ‘SNL UK’: Strict Security, Giddy Cynthia Erivo and Sometimes More a Party Than a TV Set

The Hollywood Reporter was gifted one of London’s hottest tickets on Saturday night: a seat at SNL UK‘s final show of the year. At the city’s Television Centre, it is a behemoth operation. Hundreds of people eat, sleep, and breathe this show for the entirety of its two-month run. Entering the building is not unlike being back at university — the food hall is bustling, people nervously hug one another, and the sound of a live band rehearsing floats through the walls. Unlike university, security here is almost uncomfortably overbearing. A jittery energy — and distinct buzz — percolates. It’s 9 p.m. The countdown to showtime is on, and this team still has something to prove. The Sky spinoff of Lorne Michaels’ long-running NBC sketch show boasted solid viewership numbers in its first installment earlier this year, led by SNL hall-of-famer Tina Fey. Her inaugural episode notched up over 220,000 viewers in Britain,

‘SNL UK’ Pokes Fun At Pm Andy Burnham’s Gogglebox Special In Cold Open With ‘Celebrity Traitors’, ‘Graham Norton Show’ & ‘Great British Bake Off’ Parodies

Saturday Night Live UK‘s cold open took aim at Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s bean stockpile with some help from a few familiar British TV personalities. On this weekend’s episode of the sketch comedy show, George Fouracres played Prime Minister Andy Burnham with Emma Sidi as Liverpool’s Mayor Steve Rotheram, poking fun at the pair’s Stand Up to Cancer special Friday on Celebrity Gogglebox. As the pair channel-flipped through Channel 4, Burnham down a whole canister of Twiglets following the Pm’s reveal of his favorite doomsday-prepping snacks. Landing on Celebrity Traitors, Celeste Dring did an impression of host Claudia Winkleman. “What happens when we take 22 celebrities who are too famous to play the game seriously or care whether or not they win, and put them in a castle? The answer: not much, to be honest,” she said. With Jack Shep playing Graham Norton in his

Cynthia Erivo Imagines Competing on ‘The Great British Bake Off’ in ‘SNL U.K.’ Opening Monologue: ‘I’ve Got a Soggy Bottom and I’m Freaking Stressed!’

In her opening “Saturday Night Live U.K.” monologue, Cynthia Erivo admitted that despite being an almost-egot – with an Emmy, Grammy and Tony to her name – there’s one accolade she’s still hankering after: no, not an Oscar but “the Hollywood handshake.” Erivo, who is hosting this weekend’s episode, was referring of course to Paul Hollywood, a judge on cooking competition “The Great British Bake Off” (known as “The Great British Baking Show” in the U.S.). The Channel 4 show features Hollywood and Nigella Lawson as judges and Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond as host. “That’s right. I’m a huge ‘Bake Off’ fan,” Erivo revealed. “It’s an absolute dream of mine to be on that show. But there’s just one problem: I can’t cook under time pressure. I can run a marathon in under four hours, but ask me to bake a cake,

“SNL U.K.” ran down the week in TV during its cold open, through the lens of Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s recent appearance on “Celebrity Gogglebox.” Burnham, played by George Fouracres, featured on the show with Liverpool Mayor Steven Rotheram (Emma Sidi) to discuss their favorite television moments of the week. “You know what my favorite program is, Andy?” Sidi as Rotheram said. “That ‘Saturday Night Live U.K.’ You know, my dream is that one day they do an impression of me.” The “SNL U.K.” players then spoofed some of the biggest British shows right now, including “The Celebrity Traitors.” Celeste Dring appeared as host Claudia Winkleman, saying: “What happens when we take 22 celebrities who are too famous to play the game seriously, or care whether or not they win, and put them in a castle? The answer: not much to be honest.” Prince William’s surprise appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,

‘The Great British Baking Show’: Who Got Eliminated After Dessert Week Drama?

After a shock double elimination last week, The Great British Baking Show returned for its fifth episode with a highly competitive Dessert Week, which saw a staggered start for the first time ever. Hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding announced that the 8 remaining contestants would be making “self-saucing” puddings for the Signature challenge. However, because the dessert is best served hot, the bakers were given staggered start times so that judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson could taste them as intended. For the Technical challenge, the contestants were tasked with making bread and butter pudding, while for the Showstopper, each baker had to make a dessert cart featuring at least three classic desserts.
