Taika Waititi’s Delusional ‘Klara and the Sun’ Instagram Post Exemplifies the Dangers of a Growing Divide Between Critics and Artists in the Digital Age

I’ve seen enough: Taika Waititi is no longer riffing on a level that is frickin’ sublime. A quick update for those of you who don’t get your news from DiscussingFilm and/or obsessively listen to “Who? Weekly” in order to keep tabs on Rita Ora: On Saturday afternoon, writer-director Taika Waititi opened Instagram and posted — to his grid! — a less than equanimous reaction to the reviews of his new motion picture “Klara and the Sun,” which was in the process of making less money per screen during its second weekend than the average movie theater employee. It wasn’t the most embarrassing self-own of the pre-midterms weekend, but I’d argue that Waititi’s faux pas has more to say about how the reality distortion field of today’s media landscape has made it all too easy for highly visible people to misperceive the world around them in a crisis.

Jenna Ortega's Klara And The Sun Movie Suffered An Ashtonishing Box Office Blow

Editor Note: An earlier version of this article featured an inaccurate estimation for the film's second weekend drop. This has been corrected. Things have gone from bad to worse for "Klara and the Sun." Fronted by "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega and hailing from "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi, it's been nothing shy of a crushing disappointment for all involved. Now, the movie has suffered a devastating blow on its second weekend at the box office, one that all but seals its commercial fate. Hailing from Sony Pictures, "Klara and the Sun" flopped at the box office on its opening weekend, pulling in just $701,000 in its debut against a $20 million budget.

Jenna Ortega’s New Sci-Fi Movie Defended By Director Amid Release Cancellation & Record-Low Reviews

While it may be off to a tough start, Jenna Ortega's Klara and the Sunstill has an avid defender in its director. Centered on the eponymous android as she is purchased for a terminally ill teenager and learns about life, Ortega's sci-fi film was originally on track for a big release, with Taika Waititi co-writing and directing the adaptation. After its BFI London Film Festival, however, Klara and the Sun began a swift decline as critics had sharply negative reviews for the film, resulting in Sony scaling back its wide theatrical release plans. Now, as the sci-fi movie entered its second weekend in theaters, and its Audience score

Taiki Waititi blasts "obsolete" critics for panning Klara and the Sun, proving he does, in fact, care about reviews

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi's newest film, the hopeful sci-fi flick Klara and the Sun, is having a rough run of it. Based on the Kazuo Ishiguro novel of the same name and starring Jenna Ortega as an outdated android finding a home and friendship, Klara and the Sun premiered in theaters on October 23 and was immediately met with a wall of negative reviews following its world premiere, many of which latched on to how tonally dissonant Waititi's quirky, chipper film was compared to its source material. As of this writing, it holds a 24% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score is shaking out differently. Klara currently sits at a 74% there,

A Day in the Life at ‘The Daily Show’: Jon Stewart Hypes Up Writers’ Room in Behind-the-Scenes Video (Exclusive)

Ever wonder what a day in the life at “The Daily Show” looks like? In a new behind-the-scenes video, Jon Stewart and co. prepare to host the Comedy Central satirical news series, starting with a 9:30 a.m. morning meeting. Since the anchors rotate, Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic show up to the writers’ room on separate days. They gather with the team to plan the night’s episode — there’s a whiteboard split into four “acts” and a screen with the script. The writers cycle through Fox News segments and clips from Trump rallies for inspiration. About two hours later, the team meets in the “fishbowl” for script assembly, where they work with the hosts on specific jokes. Then, after lunch, the hosts do “guest prep,” as Ronny Chieng is shown brainstorming questions for Taika Waititi with staffers. At 2:30 p.m., the

Thor Director Taika Waititi Slams Critics After His Jenna Ortega Sci-Fi Movie Flops

Director Taika Waititi isn't too happy with critics of his latest movie, "Klara and the Sun." The filmmaker behind "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Jojo Rabbit" recently took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter after his sci-fi movie starring Jenna Ortega flopped at the box office. Posting on Instagram, Waititi shared a screenshot of a Screen Rant article highlighting the movie's audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which sits at a decent 74%. The problem? It holds a lousy 24% critical approval rating. It's those critics that Waititi took issue with, writing: "I haven't read a review of anything aimed at me or my peers in almost 15 years. But I do listen to the people.
