Why watch this film?

This classic film by George Méliès became the starting point for cinema. After all, filmed and released in 1902, 'Le voyage dans la lune' was the first science fiction movie--and one of the first with actors, sets, soundtracks, and even special effects. It's a delight for those who love cinema and want to understand better the paths to the seventh art. Méliès, a visionary ahead of his time, masterfully tells the story of a group of men sent to the Moon and who, once there, find alien beings. It's hard not to imagine how 'Le voyage dans la lune' helped shape a generation that not only marveled at the possibilities that existed on the dark side of the Moon, but also began to see the whole universe of creativity and experiments that would arise in the dark room of the cinema. In the public domain, 'Le voyage dans la lune' can be seen officially and free of charge on YouTube.
