Why watch this film?

We all know that Neil Armstrong was the first human to step on the moon... but who was the last? With the conclusion of NASA's Apollo program in 1972, Gene Cernan was the last man to leave his footprints in the lunar dust, as mankind has not returned with manned missions since then. However, 'The Last Man on the Moon' is a documentary that goes beyond, not in the epic proportions of space travel, but in the intimacy of those who dare to undertake it. Documentary filmmaker Mark Craig compiles archival footage of the missions, home movies and testimonies - including Cernan's own - to momentarily remove the halo of heroism around astronauts and expose the deep personal cost of the "space race".
