Selected at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and awarded at the same year at the Sitges Festival (the most important of horror, fantasy and science fiction in the world), 'Possessor' is the second and acclaimed feature film of Canadian filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg ('Antiviral'). Clearly influenced by his father, the legendary David Cronenberg ('The Fly', 'Videodrome'), this movie enters the ultra-violent body horror subgenre via 'Matrix', to address issues about the connection between mind, body and identity, with disturbing results. The whole cast is good, but the movie reveals itself as a magnificent psychological duel between Andrea Riseborough ('Mandy') and Christopher Abbott ('James White').

Third feature from director Brandon Cronenberg (Possessor), the movie Infinity Pool is a perverse tale about the nihilistic and extreme hedonism of the privileged class, through science fiction and twisted body horror. The feature follows a writer (Alexander Skarsgård) who, after accidentally committing a murder in a remote coastal country, is sentenced to death. Except that, in exchange for a sum of one million US dollars, he can be cloned and watch his copy be executed in his place, triggering an ever-increasing wave of perverse and consequenceless hedonism. Think of an extremely violent and distorted version of Triangle of Sadness, spiced up with a frenzied performance from the phenomenal Mia Goth (Pearl) and healthy doses of body horror. If you like any of these elements, you'll enjoy Infinity Pool.

The MonsterVerse has successfully brought to the screen the battles of the two most iconic giant monsters in cinema, King Kong and Godzilla, the latter in its American reinterpretation. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a new chapter in the franchise, although, truth be told, it doesn't bring much new. The duo are now allies in a fight for the fate not only of the Earth's surface but also of the world of the "hollow earth," where the titans come from. Don't expect here the deep anti-war allegory of Godzilla Minus One, the far superior Japanese film released just a few months prior. Here it's about seeing giant monsters smack each other in the face, like an hour of wrestlers aboard monster trucks. If that's what you're looking for, it's the movie for you. If you prefer some more humanity in your films, it's better to pass.

Code 8 was an unexpectedly successful film, putting Robbie (from the series Upload) and Stephen Amell (Arrow) back on the map and captivating audiences with a compelling science fiction story. Now, the saga returns with an intense plot: after witnessing her brother's murder and the subsequent cover-up, a teenage girl with abnormal abilities seeks the help of an ex-convict (Robbie Amell) and his former crime partner (Stephen Amell). Together, they confront a unit of corrupt police officers who use advanced robotic technology to avoid being exposed. A clever and entertaining sequel.
