Nazinha: Pray for Us

Four inmates reflect on their past, present, and future while waiting for temporary leave.

Why watch this film?

"Nazinha" is the affectionate nickname given to Our Lady of Nazareth, the patron saint of the city of Belém. However, contrary to what may seem at first, "Nazinha, Olhai por Nós" is not a religious movie, nor does it focus on celebrating the traditional Círio de Nazaré - although the festival transcends issues of the film. The feature is actually about the prison system. Closing Belisário Franca's Silencing Trilogy, alongside "Menino 23: Infâncias Perdidas no Brasil" and "Soldados do Araguaia", the feature follows the story of four prisoners, two men and two women, who bring different issues to the plot. One shows the injustices of prison, another speaks of toxic relationships, another about family. The Círio de Nazaré wanders through the story, with some of these characters wanting to participate in the festival. However, Franca's intentions go beyond: the Círio serves as a contrast to the loneliness of the characters, in a story that really brings necessary layers and reflections on incarceration.
