Why watch this film?

"Ang Hupa" is a five-hour long dystopian film from Filipino director Lav Diaz. It takes some preparation to take on such a long story, especially when watching at home - viewing in the cinema would make it a bit easier since there are no distractions. The movie had its premiere at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, Cannes show, in 2019 and arrived in Brazil two years later. The narrative is set in a dystopian future, in 2034, where Southeast Asia has plunged into darkness due to many volcanic eruptions. The story is very interesting, able to make an interesting parallel with the contemporary world and the problems caused by environmental destruction. Lav Diaz even said that the world has lost hope for the future and his idea is to bring a cinema that restores this feeling.
