La Jetée

In a post-apocalyptic world, a man explores his memories through still images.

Why watch this film?

This 1962 short film, directed by French filmmaker Chris Marker, is a must-reference not only in its cinematic trend, but also in experimental cinema and science fiction film. 'La Jetée' (more commonly known by its original French title, 'La Jetée') is a movie that uses the most basic visual elements of cinema to put all the attention on its story. Thus, the director opts to use only still photography (except for some key moments with movement) to give the filming its own texture of the memories that so disturb its protagonist, trapped in a back and forth between the past and the present. A classic that, incidentally, inspired another one: '12 Monkeys', by Terry Gilliam.
