Why watch this film?

Thirty years after 'Mangueira do Amanhã', filmmaker Ana Maria Magalhães returns to the characters she documented in the Mangueira samba school, showing us a better look at what happened in the lives of the children of the green and pink wing. In 'Mangueira em 2 Tempos', more than revisiting the characters and how they are today, it is possible to better understand how reality has affected those people - in a style of 'Cabra Marcado pra Morrer'. It is interesting to see how things have evolved three decades later and, above all, to better understand what music can or cannot do in people's lives. Magalhães makes some mistakes in the rhythm, especially in moments that don't fit so well with what is being told. But it is strong and important, opening up space for an interesting sociopolitical reflection. And all still accompanied by the beat of Mangueira.
