Why watch this film?

"La Llorona" gives a different face to Latin American folklore, since the production brings a horror tale with a historical context - which can be more frightening than any legend. The feature film makes a denunciation of the genocide and indigenous sexual abuse that occurred in the country in the 1980s. And not only that, director Jayro Bustamante also brings a very good approach to sexual and psychological abuse by portraying the story of a family that comes to know the worst side of their father after a trial. In the movie, we follow former general Enrico (Julio Diaz) being accused of having been the mastermind of some of the massacres that occurred during the Guatemalan civil war. The focus here is how his wife, daughter and granddaughter deal with it, using the supernatural as a backdrop. The production brings another type of horror, which mixes Latin legends, historical facts with beautiful cinematography. "La Llorona" is a great example of how Latin American cinema is rich, both in content and execution.
