Why watch this film?
Horror movies usually do well if they bring an engaging plot, a good dose of scares or intelligence in the script. Since everyone has their own interpretation of a story, many movies are a love it or hate it situation. 'The Night House' fits into this. Highly praised at the Sundance Festival, the production was a success with specialized critics in the United States. Starting from an excellent premise, which is mourning, director David Bruckner (‘The Ritual’) develops a confusing narrative, which opens so many interpretations that it gets lost. Not only that, the references to the recent 'The Invisible Man' (2020) end up taking away some of the fun of the story. 'The Night House' deals with depression, mysticism, murders, infidelity and abusive relationships, too many themes for a feature film of less than two hours. Despite this, the production delivers great scares, those not obvious ones that make you look around for figures. Rebecca Hall's performance is also worthy of praise, she is the thread of the movie.
