This documentary recounts the deadly Australian bushfires that marked the country between 2019 and 2020 - a period which even received the morbid name of "black summer". The film is an exploration of what happened from various different perspectives, from the victims of the fires, activists and scientists. In addition, the documentary touches on the political structure of what happened, also creating a discussion about climate change and other environmental issues. By portraying a great tragedy, the production is able to chill with the harshness of reality. Some data from the "black summer" are terrifying: the fires killed and/or injured more than 3 billion animals, as well as destroyed 3 thousand homes. The percentage of forests that were burned is 21% of Australia's total. A sombre reflection on the destructive power of fire and the human impact on nature.

Through a select group of girls participating in a federal government simulation in Missouri, this film reveals, firstly, how American politics operates. But secondly, and more importantly, it explores how an environment supposedly empowering girls can both propel and limit them at the same time, raising questions about what we understand about power and the ways to exercise it.

Documentaries about the climate crisis are never too many, but sometimes it can be challenging to find one that presents its arguments in a different and memorable way. Earth Protectors is a worthy attempt. Directed by French artist and environmental activist Anne de Carbuccia, it artistically documents her 10-year journey around the world exploring the impact of climate change in various countries, as well as the solutions undertaken to empower global citizens and address the crisis. At times, de Carbuccia and her works take more prominence than necessary, but she manages to present vital information.
