Why watch this film?

Directed by Juan Francisco Riumallóun, 'Onkel Günter' is a documentary about the construction of memory, winner of Best Director in Chilean Cinema competition at the Santiago International Film Festival. It tells the story of a Chilean family descended from Germans who must face a painful episode that occurred during World War II. The silence of years is broken when one of its members moves to Berlin and begins to investigate the disappearance of his grandfather's twin brother, who was a pilot in the German army. On a round trip between Chile and Germany, the director delves into his own history to reflect on the role of the family in the construction of memory, and how events that happened in Nazi Germany still echo in today's Chile.
