Trailer

Why watch this film?

Selected at film festivals such as Venice and San Sebastian (among others in the Asian circuit), 'Yellow Cat' is a film by Kazakh filmmaker Adilkhan Yerzhanov which tells the story of an ex-convict cinephile and his girlfriend, who want to make his dream come true of building a cinema in the mountains, to escape the mafia forever. It's a movie that overflows with love for the French New Wave -a constant reference being actor Alain Delon and his film 'Le Samouraï', directed by Jean-Pierre Melville- and its influences from 1960s cinema in general. The result is like a strange idiosyncratic comedy, like an innocent contemporary version of 'Bonnie and Clyde', with a manifest love for cinema.
