Why watch this film?

Shown and awarded at the Tiradentes Film Festival, 'A Mesma Parte de um Homem' talks about relationships. Not only human relationships, but also social ones - be it labels or, mainly, the power relationships of a man over a woman. From this, we follow the story of Renata, a woman who lives in fear, showing this in her words, attitudes and looks. It is a fear of what is inside the house, of what can happen in the bedroom, in the living room, in the kitchen. The thing changes shape, however, when the husband disappears. Is he dead? At this point, Renata begins to fear what is outside, from the outside. Until that changes with the arrival of a stranger in her life and in the life of her teenage daughter. Directed by Ana Johann ('O Que Nos Olha'), the feature film is right to talk about these relationships, the fears of the woman and the way it builds this patriarchal scenario of male domination, and with pertinent reflections on the figure of the woman in society. The only doubt is about the exaggeration in the performances, with many faces and mouths, in a plot that should have more emphasis on introspection. Apart from that, there is a good reflection on the effects of patriarchy in Brazil.
