This documentary is of utmost importance to the Brazilian public, "Secrets of Putumayo" exposes numerous crimes committed against the indigenous peoples. The feature film mixes current images and photos showing the countless abuses of rubber explorers in the Putumayo region. Director Aurélio Michiles does an impeccable job of presenting the characters of this sad reality and gradually building the story without tiring the viewer. The movie tells the story of Irish activist and British Consul in Brazil, Roger Casement, who was sent to the Amazon in 1910 to investigate the actions of a rubber company, the Peruvian Amazon Company.

Plot summary

“The genocide of indigenous peoples is not in the past, as many still think.” Based on the diary written in 1910 by British diplomat Roger Casement, when he was investigating the slave system implemented in Putumayo, in the Amazon, by rubber entrepreneurs. The documentary reveals, with great determination and courage, the crime of a criminal organization that killed more than 30,000 indigenous people in this forgotten part of the world, which Casement uncovered in the last century.
