Why watch this film?
Despite flirting with melodrama, this movie takes us on an interesting journey to the world of drag queens in Havana, Cuba. We get to know their joys, sorrows, struggles, and triumphs. But more than anything else, we see a story between a father and a son, something that repeats itself in many homes around the world. 'Viva' was Ireland's entry for the 2016 Oscar, making it to the first list of nine pre-selected by the Academy.

Plot summary
Jesus, a young hairdresser working at a Havana nightclub that showcases drag performers, who dreams of being a performer himself. Encouraged by his mentor, Mama, Jesus finally gets his chance to take the stage. But when his estranged father Angel abruptly reenters his life, his world is quickly turned upside down. As father and son clash over their opposing expectations of each other, A love story as the men struggle to understand one another and reconcile as a family.
