Trailer

Why watch this film?

"Mary Poppins" is undoubtedly one of the greatest Disney classics, and perhaps even Hollywood's greatest cinematic classic of all time, marking the childhood of many generations. Based on P.L. Travers' books (which, as we've seen in "Saving Mr. Banks," wasn't much liked by Travers himself), the movie stars Julie Andrews ("The Sound of Music") as the charismatic protagonist, who has inexplicable magical powers. The cast also includes the incomparable Dick Van Dyke as Bert, for which the film won no less than five Oscars, including Best Actress, Best Music, and Best Original Score. As you can see, the work of the Sherman Brothers (composers Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman) is very memorable and is an important part of the soul of the work, and it also won two Grammys.
