Why watch this film?
Netflix has been making a certain rescue of Christmas movies, and 'Holiday in The Wild', despite the Portuguese title, is one of them. In any case, the feature film manages to be more than that: the protagonist, Kristin Davis ('Sex and the City') is also an executive producer of the film and a renowned activist for various causes in African territory, and had a similar experience with an orphaned elephant. Thus, the film tries to give visibility to the preservation of these pachyderms, and that is why Davis worked hard to make the filming in a real elephant sanctuary (something worth seeing), avoiding the use of trained animals.

If you've seen any of Scott Adkins' movies, like 'Boyka' and 'The Debt Collector', you know what to expect from 'Abduction', the actor's latest feature film in partnership with director Ernie Barbarash (of 'Cube Zero'). Here, we follow a story in the style of 'The Bourne Identity' -- a soldier (Adkins) wakes up in the middle of Vietnam not knowing who he is and having to desperately flee from his deadly pursuers. There are no big surprises in this movie, nor is the plot really well directed by Barbarash. However, those who accept to travel through the tension of the story and setting will have a lot of fun.
Heatwave
A suspenseful story involving a very complicated love triangle starring Kat Graham ('Christmas Present Mission'), 'Heatwave' follows the life of a woman who ends up getting involved with her boss's wife, without knowing about their marriage. Graham plays a very different character here than what she has presented before and shows that she has a lot of potential for more dramatic roles. This may not be the most amazing thriller in the world, but it is quite complete and manages to engage the viewer.

Jennifer Garner (Daredevil, TV's "Alias") and Mark Ruffalo (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) star in this hilarious flash-forward romance about a pre-teen girl who goes from geek to glamorous. With the help of some magic wishing dust, 13 year-old Jenna Rink (Garner) becomes 30 and gorgeous overnight, with everything she ever wanted, except for her best friend Matt (Ruffalo). Now, this grown woman must create some magic of her own to help the little girl inside find the true love she left behind.

There's a reason why, despite being so repetitive, teen romantic comedies like Clueless work so well: we've all been there, somehow. The plot of How to Date Billy Walsh is set in Britain, but follows the same formula as many other similar proposals from the United States: a guy, Archie, has been friends with Amelia since childhood, but secretly loves her. However, when he finally gathers the courage to confess, she falls for Billie Walsh, a handsome and athletic exchange student. The story is predictable and, except for a Netflix Sex Education-like layer of paint, there's not much new. However, it's a good contender for a Gen Z classic.
The Taste of Things
From Vietnamese-French director Anh Hung Tran (The Scent of Green Papaya) and starring the legendary Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel, The Taste of Things was France's selection for the 2024 Oscars, although it was not nominated. Set in 1889 and based on the character of Dodin-Bouffant created by Marcel Rouff, the story follows a chef (Magimel) enchanted by his cook (Binoche), for whom he feels not only culinary admiration, but genuine love. However, she is not ready to take the step into marriage and is happy and content with the relationship they have. Sensual in its visuality and narrative, it is a powerful story of love and about love, which, while not entirely breaking free from conventions, is elevated by the formidable talent of its protagonists.
