Why watch this film?

Presented at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight in 2019, this is French filmmaker Erwan le Duc's feature debut and it's a unique and hard to describe in conventional terms. Yes, 'Perdrix' is technically a romantic comedy, but it feels more like something created by Wes Anderson ('The Grand Budapest Hotel') than typical genre films. Lead actress Maud Wyler provides infectious energy to her portrayal of a character who, in addition to challenging the other characters' conceptions of love, family relationships and freedom, will make you think about these issues. Sure, his comedic style isn't for everyone's taste, but if your sense of humor is offbeat, it'll certainly be a movie for you.
