Why watch this film?

Selected at the Morelia International Film Festival (among many others around the world), 'Asfixia' is a beautiful drama that inspires us to find tenderness in the midst of darkness. Directed by Kenya Márquez ('Fecha de Caducidad'), the film presents a story about a mother's tenacity and her unconditional love for her daughter, but on many other levels, as it touches upon topics such as misogyny and discrimination, with a setting that oscillates between cold realism and captivating surrealism (pay attention to its polished sound design). The debuting actress Johana Fragoso Blendl will convince you as the tenacious mother swimming against the current, but the movie also features acclaimed actors such as Enrique Arreola ('Párpados Azules') and Mónica del Carmen ('Año Bisiesto').
