We probably wouldn’t be talking about Tyrese Gibson today if it weren’t for this movie. The curious thing is that 2 Fast 2 Furious wasn’t even that successful, as it lacked almost the entire cast from the well-received first installment (except for Paul Walker). But Gibson made Roman Pearce such a charismatic character that the seed was planted for his eventual return in the fifth film, which reinvented the franchise and brought back all the characters introduced up to that point.
While the "family" started to solidify in the fifth film, it was in Fast & Furious 6 that Roman Pearce began to establish his role in the dynamic: the comic relief, often alongside (or arguing with) Tej Parker (Ludacris). And he shines brightest during the thrilling final chase scene, where he finds himself cornered in the most absurd situations just to stay alive.
Another major action franchise Gibson has been part of is Transformers, where he played Sergeant Robert Epps, an ally of the protagonists who, in the sequels, teams up with the Autobots.
Tyrese Gibson has also expanded his work into other action projects, sharing the screen with other stars of the genre, like Mel Gibson. In Dangerous, he plays a police officer hunting down a supposedly reformed psychopath (Scott Eastwood) who is investigating the truth behind his brother's death.
The actor also tried to break into the lucrative superhero movie business. Unfortunately, he did so in the ill-fated Morbius, a spin-off from Sony’s Spider-Man universe. His role could have been larger: he plays Simon Stroud, an FBI agent tasked with hunting down the “living vampire” (Jared Leto), with the help of a bionic arm (whose scenes were, however, cut). In the comics, the character is a mercenary who has teamed up with heroes like Spider-Man and Black Widow. What a shame...
