Svend is a young worker and former resistance fighter who after the war has lost his meaning of life and trust in society: "What were we fighting for?" He meets the young social democrat Karen, and she opens his eyes for a vision of a prosperous future. In the year of Danish liberation from German occupation, Socialdemokratiet set out a new party program, "Fremtidens Danmark" to unite workers in the cities and in the country. This film was produced to promote the program.
