Exploring issues of class privilege among Rio's decadent elite, Casa Grande depicts a teenage boy's struggle to escape his overprotective parents as they covertly spiral into bankruptcy.

"Alongside 'Que Horas Ela Volta?', the excellent 'Casa Grande' may be one of the films that deals most sensitively with the issue of social and economic differences in Brazil. Here, filmmaker Fellipe Barbosa (also from the great 'Gabriel e a Montanha') tells the story of a young man trying to escape the life he leads with his parents, who are bankrupt but still flaunt and show off as millionaires. Showing an attentive and sharp look at the desires and goals of this new generation, 'Casa Grande' hits the mark when dealing with social differences without segregating, but uniting opposites in the same goal."
