Ann Clemance inherits a fortune and travels to Paris, France, where she encounters an old friend, social reformer Adrian Torrens, who is contemptuous of her wealth and frivolity. When Adrian befriends an apache dancer, Ann dons a similar costume and robs his home. Adrian, unfazed by her masquerade, takes Ann on a tour of Paris's impoverished neighborhoods. The experience awakens Ann's need to help others, after which she adopts an orphan and marries Adrian.
