A South African lawyer defends a traumatized prison guard haunted by his experiences witnessing executions, battling moral and legal dilemmas.
Why watch the movie Shepherds and Butchers?
"Shepherds and Butchers is a South African drama based on true events, set near the end of apartheid, starring Steve Coogan and Andrea Riseborough. The story follows a lawyer assigned an impossible case: defending a young white prison guard who executes seven unarmed Black men. The lawyer must argue that the crime was the result of severe post-traumatic stress from all the executions he had to carry out in prison. It’s a powerful drama, with intense performances and serious questions about the brutal ways discrimination can manifest and inflict deep harm on a society."
