Why watch the movie Oh, Canada?
"Oh, Canada! is another deep dive by Paul Schrader into the mind of a tormented man—here, a dying filmmaker who decides to revisit his own life on camera. Played with intensity and vulnerability by Richard Gere, the character Leo Fife seeks not redemption, but understanding. The film, inspired by the novel Foregone, is a disconcerting mosaic of memories, ghosts, and regrets. As with real memories, everything is fragmented, confusing, and emotionally charged. Schrader, at 78, delivers an intimate reflection on the end of life, the weight of choices, and the fragility of memory—with touches of confession and melancholy. A bold, cerebral film, a must-see for those who follow auteur cinema."
