Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
"Bugonia isn't Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos' strangest or most complex film—far from it. A remake of the 2003 Korean film Save the Green Planet!, the feature film tells the story of two men (Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis) obsessed with discovering whether aliens are infiltrating Earth to destroy it. The main suspect falls on Michelle (Emma Stone, in another brilliant performance), a senior executive who is kidnapped and tortured by the pair. Are aliens simply infiltrating our midst? Or are they both just crazy? With good ideas, and somewhat reminiscent of the also interesting 10 Cloverfield Lane, the film deals with paranoia, obsession, and conspiracy theories—with a brilliant ending that laughs in the face of people who believe the greatest absurdities the internet has brought us."
