"Caught Stealing is the least Darren Aronofsky-esque film of the filmmaker's career. After all, forget for a moment that dark, even somewhat bizarre, universe the director presented in films like Mother! and Requiem for a Dream. Here, he draws on the work of directors like the Coen brothers and Guy Ritchie to tell the story of a young man (Austin Butler, the film's best feature) who gets involved with Ukrainian mobsters, two dangerous Jewish brothers, and more violence after being mistaken for his punk neighbor. It's a film with little to say, without any big ideas, but it's entertaining due to the comedy of errors that naturally arises from the decisions Butler's character makes. Without a doubt, a minor film by Aronofsky, whose previous film, The Whale, moved and made history, but which still provides space for a few good laughs -- something almost unthinkable when talking about the North American director's cinema."
