A young newlywed arrives at her husband's imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife, Rebecca, whose legacy lives on in the house long after her death.
"Exclusive to Netflix, 'Rebecca' is an adaptation of the literary work of British author Daphne Du Maurier, which was the basis of three films by master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock - 'The Lodger', 'The Birds' and, of course, 'Rebecca' itself. The new version, starring Lily James and Armie Hammer, may not be a remake, but it's hard not to compare it to Hitchcock's feature, which became an Oscar-winning classic in the 1940s. The film tells the story of a young woman who marries a wealthy man who is still haunted by memories of his deceased wife. Directed by Ben Wheatley, 'Rebecca' may be surprising for those who don't know the story and slightly tedious for those who watched the 1940 version. Wheatley brought more of a problematic romance than a suspense, which is well built both in the book and in Hitchcock's version. Despite this, the feature has not lost its glamor, has beautiful cinematography and excellent performance by Kristin Scott Thomas."
