It's late 1930's. Foreseeing the upcoming war in Europe, Lithuanian geographer Feliksas Gruodis comes up with an idea to save his country by establishing a Lithuanian colony overseas. The plan is a massive exodus to the so called "Reserve Lithuania" in case of occupation.

"This is the first feature film by Lithuanian filmmaker Karolis Kaupinis, with a spirit resulting from a peculiar mix of melancholy and ironic humor, captured by a black-and-white photography of an elegance, stillness, and emptiness comparable to that of 'Ida' or 'Cold War' both by Paweł Pawlikowski. Just like those movies, 'Nova Lituania' deals with the loneliness of not belonging or, in this case, the desperation of being very close to experiencing displacement as a result of a war."
