Why watch the movie The Gasoline Thieves?
"A crime drama rooted in social realism, 'Huachicolero' is one of the most impactful and acclaimed Mexican films of the 2010s, nominated for four Ariel Awards (including Best First Feature for its director, Edgar Nito), and selected at the Guanajuato International Film Festival and Tribeca International Film Festival in 2019. Set in the reality of illegal gasoline extraction in Mexico (from which it takes its name), the film tackles the issue with sensitivity and without reducing its characters to stereotypes of "pornomisery," making it a showcase of economic marginalization in the country as well as a powerful social drama."
