Why watch the movie Dead Pigs?
"Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, this is the acclaimed feature debut of Chinese-American filmmaker Cathy Yan, an achievement that would eventually earn her enough attention to be signed by Warner Bros. to direct 'Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)'. 'Dead Pigs' is a film that breaks with the conventions of its national cinema to portray an eccentric portrait of contemporary China, caught between tradition and a frantic openness towards globalization. The film is inspired by the strange incident of dead pigs in the Huangpu River during 2013, and while it has earned comparisons to Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Magnolia' (with pig corpses instead of raining frogs), it has more accents of a dark and peculiar sense of humor."
