"Directed by Sandra Luz López Barroso, 'El Compromiso de las Sombras' is, above all, an audiovisual record of final farewells in an Afro-descendant community in Mexico, San Nicolás, in the state of Guerrero. Through its main character, responsible for the community's funeral rituals, the documentary observes the songs, prayers, and dances without invading. It is a narratively scattered film, but filled with emotions encapsulated by its beautiful images."
