Why watch the movie The Painted Bird?
"There is no doubt that narratives about World War II are saturated in cinemas, with increasingly banal and repetitive plots. Fortunately, however, every now and then a movie like 'The Painted Bird' emerges. Directed by Czech Václav Marhoul ('Tobruk'), the feature film moves as it tells the story of a Jewish boy somewhere in Eastern Europe seeking refuge during World War II. With black and white photography and moving performances, the production manages to make a precise and powerful cut on the dangers and hopes of a nebulous time in History."
