NYMPHOMANIAC: VOLUME II continues with the story of the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and her adulthood, during which her journey of self-discovery leads to darker complications. The film stars Jamie Bell, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth and Jean-Marc Barr in addition to Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin and Shia LaBeouf.

"The third part of Lars von Trier's 'Depression Trilogy', 'Nymphomaniac' was split into two volumes for commercial release due to its length, and it is the second half that suffers most of the adverse effects. 'Nymphomaniac: Vol. II' directs its attention to themes of sexual repression, depression, and guilt, even reflecting on its own narrative structure, provided by Joe's (Charlotte Gainsborough) narration to Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård). However, the tonal shifts can be perceived as abrupt, and some scenes seem forced in the final cut (make more sense in the director's cut). Nevertheless, it is the second half that ends up making the movie make sense in the aforementioned trilogy, along with 'Antichrist' and 'Melancholia'."
